In this article, we will show you how to use Sawtooth Software SSI Web 14 for online surveys in three steps: creating a project, designing a questionnaire, and publishing and collecting data.

Step 1: Creating a Project

To create a new project in SSI Web 14, you need to launch the software and click on the "New" button on the toolbar. You will be asked to enter a project name and a location where you want to save your project files. You can also choose a template for your project from the list of available templates.

After creating a project, you will see the main window of SSI Web 14, which consists of four tabs: General Settings, Questionnaire Design, Test Survey, and Get Data. You can switch between these tabs to access different functions of the software.

Step 2: Designing a Questionnaire

To design a questionnaire in SSI Web 14, you need to click on the "Questionnaire Design" tab and use the "Add" button to add questions to your survey. You can choose from different types of questions, such as:

  • Single Response: A question that allows respondents to select one answer from a list of options.

  • Multiple Response: A question that allows respondents to select more than one answer from a list of options.

  • Grid: A question that displays a matrix of rows and columns where respondents can select one or more answers for each row.

  • Numeric: A question that requires respondents to enter a numeric value.

  • Open-Ended: A question that allows respondents to enter text.

  • CBC: A question that presents respondents with a set of alternatives where each alternative has different levels of attributes. Respondents are asked to choose their preferred alternative or rank them in order of preference.

  • ACBC: A question that adapts the set of alternatives based on the respondents' previous choices. Respondents are asked to choose their preferred alternative or rank them in order of preference.

  • MaxDiff: A question that presents respondents with a set of items and asks them to indicate the best and worst items in each set.

  • Other: A question that allows you to use custom HTML code or SSI Script to create your own question type.

For each question type, you can customize various settings, such as question text, answer options, layout, appearance, validation, logic, etc. You can also use SSI Script to add dynamic elements to your questions, such as piping, branching, calculations, etc.

Step 3: Publishing and Collecting Data

To publish and collect data in SSI Web 14, you need to click on the "Test Survey" tab and use the "Publish" button to upload your survey files to your web server. You can choose between two methods of publishing: FTP or Local Copy. FTP allows you to transfer your files directly to your web server using an FTP account. Local Copy allows you to copy your files to a local folder and then manually upload them to your web server using any method you prefer.

After publishing your survey, you can test it online using the "Test Survey" button or by entering the survey URL in your browser. You can also use the "Preview" button to preview your survey offline in the software. You can make changes to your survey at any time and republish it as needed.

To collect data from your respondents, you need to distribute your survey URL to them using any method you prefer, such as email invitations, web links, QR codes, etc. You can also use Sawtooth Software's hosting service e0e6b7cb5c
