Haptics. Those are the words you will hear a lot these days. They are already a well known technology used in a variety of mobile devices, TVs and even cars. Now the technology is being applied on top of a movie, something the audience cannot experience directly.
The word haptic comes from the Greek word ‘haptikos‘ meaning touching. The technology allows the wearer of the device to sense touches and vibrations, but the device also sends information to the brain.
The first time Haptics was used on a film was on the movie, ‘Mission Impossible – Ghost Protocol’. It was an experiment between a man wearing a belt with a tiny vibrator and his co-star, Tom Cruise.
The goal of the experiment was to see if the audience could detect the movements made by the vibrator without knowing. The results were successful, with many reports that they could not feel it. This will allow for a larger audience to experience the full effects of the devices on the film.
One of the effects the device was expected to produce was shivers. Based on the study done on the movie, that actually happened. It was confirmed that the audience was able to detect the vibrations and shivers in the screen.
It will be interesting to see how the haptics technology is applied in other movies and how it affects the audience.[Does support of older people reduce long-term care costs?].
The purpose of this study was to identify which factors affect the long-term care cost of older persons who have low incomes and the minimum needs of food and clothing. The subjects were older persons who were aged 65 years or older living at home and who were dependent in the activities of daily living. The subjects were 988 (48.6%) out of a total of 2,113 older persons who were living at home and were dependent in activities of daily living. The subjects were divided into two groups, the 1,359 low-income older persons and the 229 high-income older persons. 0b46394aab
